UNICEF Greece launches a competition for the selection of a young participant to attend the 2024 UN Climate Change Conference (COP29) in Baku
UNICEF Greece Country Office invites young people 14-24 years old living in Greece to submit their proposals on ways to address climate change, along with a comprehensive climate advocacy plan.
The author of the best climate advocacy plan will be provided with the unique opportunity to participate in the 29th Conference of the Parties of the UNFCCC (COP 29) that will be held in Baku, Azerbaijan, on 11-22 November 2024.
Young people who would like to take part in the competition launched by UNICEF Greece should complete Green-Pal, a digital tool aiming to support adolescents and youth to develop climate action skills. UNICEF Greece launched Green-Pal in April 2024, recognizing the importance of green skills and the need to amplify the voices of children and young people in the climate debate. Through the 5 tasks available on Green-Pal, the participants will be asked to work individually or in groups, to develop their own Climate Advocacy Plan with their ideas on how to address the impact of the climate crisis and their proposals for policy changes on aspects related to climate and the environment.
All Climate Advocacy Plans will be assessed by a UNICEF Greece committee. An oral presentation in English of the 5 best Action Plans will follow, before the UNICEF Greece committee. Completing the process, one winner will be selected and two alternates in case the winner is not able to travel to COP29 due to unforeseen circumstances. The winner will have all expenses (air tickets, accommodation, meals) to attend COP29 in Baku covered by UNICEF Greece.
