Equity benchmark indices edged higher in Tuesday’s early trade amid an ease in consumer price inflation and strength in US equities overnight.

The BSE Sensex rose 300 points to 63,058, and the NSE Nifty50 moved 90 points higher to test 18,700.

Among buzzing stocks, Zee Entertainment fell 4 per cent after Sebi debarred its promoter and Essel group Chairman Subhash Chandra and MD and CEO Punit Goenka from holding key positions in any listed company.

Inox Wind Energy zoomed 14 per cent on its proposed amalgamation with parent Inox Wind.

The broader markets also rose in tandem with benchmarks. The BSE MidCap and SmallCap indices gained up to 0.6 per cent.

Sectorally, all indices held gains led by Nifty FMCG index, which rose over 1 per cent.
