Sensex Up 170 Points, Nifty Near 24,400; TCS Rises 3%

Nifty50 and Sensex opened higher on Thursday, tracking mixed global signals.

BSE Sensex soared 178 points or 0.22 per cent to 80,076.23 levels while Nifty50 rose 0.26 per cent or 63 points at 24,379.30 levels.

TCS, Tech Mahindra were the top gainers while Maruti, Power Gridwere the top laggards on BSE.

Similarly, on NSE, TCS, Wipro were the top gainers while Maruti, Power Grid were the top laggards.

Broader markets were buzzing in trade. Nifty SmallCap soared 0.56 per cent while MidCap was trading 0.22 per cent higher.

Sectorally, Nifty IT led with a gain of 1.92 per cent. On the flipside, Auto was the top loser, down 0.2 per cent.

Global Cues

Across Asia-Pacific, markets mostly declined following US inflation data for June, which stood at the lowest in three years. Japan’s Nikkei retreated over 2 per cent, pulling back from record highs, while the Kospi dropped 1.26 per cent. In contrast, Australia’s ASX200 rose 0.72 per cent.

In the US, markets closed with mixed results as easing inflation bolstered expectations of rate cuts by the Federal Reserve. The S&P 500 ended 0.88 per cent lower and the Nasdaq Composite fell 1.95 per cent, ending their seven-day winning streaks with their worst performance since April. The Dow Jones, however, gained 0.08 per cent.
