Sensex up 150 points, Nifty trades above 18,650; FMCG stocks gain, broader markets outperform

Domestic equities opened higher on Wednesday tracking a rise in US equities. BSE benchmark Sensex gained 195.62 points, or 0.31 per cent, to 62,988.50, while broader NSE Nifty50 rose 66.20 points, or 0.36 per cent to 18,665.20.

By 9.30 am, Sensex was up 149.47 points, or 0.24 per cent to 62,942.35, Nifty rose 0.30 per cent, or 55.25 points to trade at 18,654.25.

Adani group stocks jumped in opening trade, as BSE raised the upper limit circuit of 4 of the group companies, namely Adani Transmission, Adani Green Energy, Adani Wilmar, and Adani Power.

Adani Power jumped 3.75 per cent, while, Adani Transmission gained 1.72 per cent, Adani Wilmar rose 1.34, and Adani Green Energy was up 0.51 per cent, at the time of writing. Adani Enterprises, on the other hand, rose 0.58 per cent.

All sectors were trading in green at the time of writing, as Nifty FMCG gained 0.48 per cent, the PSU Bank index rose 0.47 per cent, Nifty Healthcare Index climbed 0.46 per cent, and the media index gained 0.39 per cent.

Broader market indices also extended the rally, as Nifty Microcap 250 rose 0.92 per cent, Nifty Smallcap 50 and Nifty Smallcap 250 gained 0.65 per cent, Nifty Smallcap 100 climbed 0.64 per cent.

Britannia, HDFC Life, Nestle India, Power Grid, SBI Life, Apollo Hospital, Wipro, Tata Consumer, Hindustan Unilever, and Adani Enterprises were the top gainers in the opening trade.

Meanwhile, HCLTech, ONGC, Tata Motors, Grasim, Titan, Sun Pharma, Bajaj Finance, Kotak Mahindra Bank, and ICICI Bank were the top losers.
