Sensex slips over 200 pts, below 65k, Nifty50 trades at 19,290 levels; IT stocks drag
Domestic equities tanked on Friday led by losses in IT, realty and financial stocks. BSE benchmark Sensex opened at 65,025.71, 125.31 points lower from its previous close, while broader NSE Nifty50 slipped 63.5 points to open at 19,301.75.
By 9.40 am, Sensex was trading 238.14 points, or 0.37 per cent down at 64,912.88, while Nifty50 was down 77.20 points, or 0.40 per cent to trade at 19,288.05.
Broader markets were mostly outperforming key indices, as Nifty Microcap 250 gained 0.55 per cent, Nifty Smallcap 250 jumped 0.35 per cent, Nifty Midcap 150 and Nifty Smallcap 100 rose 0.24 per cent each, and Nifty Midcap 100 gained 0.23 per cent.
Sectorally, Nifty PSU Bank spurted 0.85 per cent, Nifty IT slipped 0.82 per cent, the media index climbed 0.57 per cent, pharma index jumped 0.45 per cent, and realty gained 0.40 per cent, and Nifty Healthcare Index jumped 0.30 per cent.
IT stocks were the top losers in the morning trade, as TCS slipped 1.50 per cent, Wipro was down 1.30 per cent, HCL Tech fell nearly 1 per cent, and Infosys around 1 per cent.
In the Nifty50 index, HDFC Life and SBI Life, Hero MotoCorp and Hindalco were also the top losers.
