Sensex, Nifty make new peaks for 4th day; IT rebounds

Continuing their swift rally, equity benchmark indices edged higher Wednesday and made new highs again. The BSE Sensex rose 378 points to 69,674, its new peak for the third day. NSE Nifty50 touched fresh high of 20,950 for the fourth day.

Power Grid, Asian Paints, SBI, HDFC Bank, HCL Tech and Sun Pharma rose 0.5-1.3 per cent, leading gains on the Sensex, while Adani Ent and Adani Ports jumped 3-4 per cent on the Nifty. On the flip side, Maruti, Bajaj Auto, Eicher Motors were the top frontline losers.

The BSE MidCap index rose 0.4 per cent and the SmallCap index gained 0.23 per cent.

Among stocks, Himadri Speciality jumped 4 per cent as its board approved Rs 4,800 crore investment to set up a lithium ion battery components unit.

Nifty Media and Oil & Gas indices were the top gainers, holding 1 per cent gains.
