Sensex, Nifty in red; IndusInd Bank, Bharti Airtel, Maruti gain, IT stocks drag

Domestic equities opened nearly flat in negative on Tuesday, as IT stocks weighed. BSE benchmark Sensex tanked 21 points, or 0.03 per cent to 60,035.13, meanwhile, broader NSE Nifty50 opened 5.90 points, or 0.03 per cent down at 17,743.40.

IndusInd Bank climbed 2 per cent at open, after the private lender on Monday posted a nearly 50 per cent rise in its net profit for the fourth quarter.

Meanwhile, auto stocks were gainers at open, as Nifty Auto index climbed 0.36 per cent. Hero Moto Corp climbed 0.81 per cent, followed by Maruti Suzuki at 0.67 per cent.

Bajaj Finserv, Power Grid, Bharti Airtel, Bajaj Finance, Adani Ports, Ultra Cements, SBI, were the top gainers in the opening trade.

Meanwhile, Kotak Bank, Tech Mahindra, Sun Pharma, UPL, Dr Reddy, HDFC Life, TCS, Hindustan Unilever, Wipro, Infosys were the top losing stocks in the opening trade.

Broader markets were largely mixed, mostly trading flat in positive. Nifty Microcap 250 was up 0.44 per cent, while, Nifty Smallcap 50 gained 0.23 per cent, followed by Nifty 100 at 0.21 per cent and Nifty Midcap Select at 0.18 per cent.

Nifty Healthcare Index tanked 0.52 per cent, while, the IT index was down 0.44 per cent. On the other hand, Nifty Consumer Durbales plunged 1.18 per cent.
