Sensex jumps 226 points, Nifty rises to 17,460; Bajaj, HDFC duo gain, IndusInd Bank loses

Domestic markets opened slightly up but soon climbed higher on Wednesday led by gains in Bajaj and HDFC duo. BSE benchmark Sensex opened 83.05 points, or 0.14 per cent higher to 59,189.49, while, NSE’s Nifty50 climbed 18.50 points or 0.11 per cent to open at 17,416.55.

By 9.30 am, Sensex climbed 225.85 points, or 0.38 per cent to 59,332.29, while Nifty50 was up 61.60 points, 0.35 per cent to 17,459.65.

Broader markets were largely mixed at the open as Nifty Microcap 250 jumped 0.44 per cent, while, Nifty Smallcap 100 gained 0.27 per cent, followed by Nifty 100 at 0.22 per cent, Nifty 200 at 0.19 per cent and Nifty 500 at 0.18 per cent.

Financial services stocks climbed at the open, as Nifty Financial Services 25/50 gained 0.64 per cent, and Nifty Financial Services gained 0.60 per cent. Meanwhile, oil and gas stocks gained 0.37 per cent, Nifty Consumer Durables at 0.32 per cent, and Nifty Bank at 0.20 per cent.

Bajaj duo were the top gaining stocks in the Sensex pack in the opening trade, as Bajaj Finance and Bajaj Finserv jumped 2.90 per cent each. HDFC duo also jumped, as HDFC Bank climbed 1.47 per cent, and HDFC gained 1.34 per cent. ONGC, Adani Ports, ITC, Reliance Industries, Nestle India were among the top gaining stocks today.

Meanwhile, Eicher Motors tanked 1.03 per cent today, HCLTech lost 0.89 per cent. Apollo Hospitals, Grasim, IndusInd Bank, Tata Steel were among the top losers at open.
