Sensex jumps 123 points at open, Nifty climbs to 17,646; Tata Motors, Adani Enterprises, L&T rise

Domestic markets opened slightly higher on Monday amid strong global cues as key indices — Sensex and Nifty — were both up 0.16 per cent at open.

BSE benchmark Sensex jumped 123.14 points, or 0.21 per cent to 59,956.11, and NSE’s Nifty50 jumped 47.35 points or 0.27 per cent to open at 17,646.50.

Broader markets outperformed at open as Nifty Microcap 250 gained 0.46 per cent, Nifty Smallcap 50 rose 0.42 per cent, and Nifty Smallcap 100 gained 0.41 per cent. Meanwhile, India Vix spurt 4.76 per cent at open.

Realty stocks were the top gainers at open as the sector rose 1.67 per cent, followed by auto stocks at 0.83 per cent, and oil & gas stocks at 0.63 per cent. Consumer durables stocks gained 0.57 per cent, while media stocks climbed 0.47 per cent.

Tata Motors, Adani Enterprises, Larsen and Toubro, Titan, ONGC, Mahindra and Mahindra, Tata Steel, and NTPC were among the top gainers during the opening trade.

Larsen and Toubro jumped over 1 per cent at open after reports said that the company has emerged as the lowest bidder for redevelopment of the New Delhi Railway Station.

Meanwhile, Asian Paints, IndusInd Bank, Maruti Suzuki, Britannia, Nestle India, Bajaj Finance, ITC, and Hindustan Unilever were among the top losing stocks today.
