Sensex gains over 170 pts, Nifty trades above 18,300; IndusInd Bank, Tata Motors gain

Domestic equities inched up in early trade on Wednesday ahead of US inflation data due tonight and key Q4 results. BSE benchmark Sensex jumped 106.29 points, or 0.17 per cent to 61,867.62, while, broader NSE Nifty50 gained 35.45 points, or 0.19 per cent to trade at 18,301.40.

By 9.20 am, Sensex jumped 170.89 points, or 0.28 per cent to 61,932.22, while Nifty gained 42.50 points, or 0.23 per cent to trade near 18,308.45.

IndusInd Bank, Tata Motors, Power Grid, Adani Enterprises, Cipla, UltraTech Cement, HCLTech, Bajaj Finserv, M&M, and Bajaj Finance were the top gainers in the opening trade.

On the other hand, Tata Consumers, UPL, ONGC, Sun Pharma, NTPC, SBI, Bharti Airtel, Titan, and Hindustan Unilever were the top losing stocks at this hour.

Broader markets extended the rally, as Nifty Microcap 250 and India Vix gained 0.35 per cent, followed by Nifty Next 50 rising 0.28 per cent, and Nifty Smallcap 100 climbing 0.27 per cent.

Sectorally, only PSU Bank was trading in negative, down 1.19 per cent. The auto index jumped 0.66 per cent today, followed by oil and gas stocks at 0.44 per cent, and the FMCG index rose 0.41 per cent. Media index rose 0.35 per cent, meanwhile, Nifty IT jumped 0.25 per cent in early trade.
