Sensex gains 230 points, Nifty over 18,560; metal stocks rally

Domestic markets opened higher on Friday amid positive global cues and led by robust economic data for May including the GST collection, manufacturing PMI and passenger auto sales could lend strength to equities.

BSE benchmark Sensex opened 181.45 points, or 0.29 per cent higher at 62,609.99, while broader NSE Nifty50 gained 57.40 points, or 0.31 per cent at 18,545.15.

All sectors were trading in green in the opening trade, as the realty index jumped the most at 1.15 per cent, followed by the metal index at 0.89 per cent and auto at 0.63 per cent.

By 9.30 am, Sensex soared 228.94 points, or 0.37 per cent to 62,657.48, and Nifty50 gained 73.50 points, or 0.4 per cent to 18,561.25.

Broader markets also extended the rally as Nifty Smallcap 50 gained 1.14 per cent, Nifty Smallcap 100 jumped 0.90 per cent, Nifty Smallcap 250 gained 0.80 per cent, and Nifty Microcap 250 climbed 0.79 per cent. Meanwhile, India Vix fell 2.26 per cent.

HeroMotoCorp, Hindalco, Tech Mahindra, Tata Steel, Bajaj Auto, JSW Steel, Adani Enterprises, UltraTech Cement, and Adani Ports were the top gainers in the opening session.

On the other hand, HDFC Life, Coal India, Sun Pharma, Cipla, Asian Paint, Eicher Motor, and Apollo Hospitals were the stocks trading in red at this hour.
