Sensex gains 200 points, Nifty above 19,600 ahead of RBI policy; metal, realty stocks gain
Domestic equities climbed higher at open on Friday ahead of the Reserve Bank of India’s bimonthly monetary policy announcement at 10 am. BSE benchmark Sensex jumped 195.44 points, or 0.30 per cent to 65,827.01, while broader NSE Nifty50 gained 65.20 points, or 0.33 per cent to 19,610.95.
By 9.30 am, Sensex was trading 206.45 points, or 0.31 per cent higher at 65,838.02, while broader NSE Nifty 50 gained 72.60 points, or 0.37 per cent at 19,618.35.
Barring Nifty Smallcap 50 and India Vix, all broader markets soared in the opening session, as Nifty 100 climbed 0.31 per cent, followed by Nifty 200 at 0.30 per cent, Nifty 500 at 0.28 per cent, Nifty Largemidcap 250 at 0.27 per cent, Nifty Total Market at 0.28 per cent, and Nifty Midcap 100 at 0.25 per cent.
Sectorally, only Nifty PSU Bank was trading in negative, down 0.39 per cent. Nifty Metal jumped 1.15 per cent, Nifty Realty and Nifty Pharma gained 0.78 per cent each, Nifty Healthcare Index climbed 0.69 per cent, Nifty Media rose 0.49 per cent, and Nifty Consumer Durables climbed 0.40 per cent.
Bajaj Finserv, JSW Steel, Cipla, Tata Steel, Titan, Adani Enterprises, Bajaj Finance, Dr Reddys, Adani Ports, Tata Consumers, NTPC, Sun Pharma, Hindalco, M&M, Infosys, Maruti Suzuki, Divis Lab, ITC, Tata Motors, IndusInd Bank and Hero MotoCorp were the top gainers in he opening session.
L&T, Hindustan Unilever, Bharti Airtel, ONGC, PowerGrid, Axis Bank, HCLTech were the net losers across both key indices.
