Sensex gains 100 pts, Nifty trades at 18,660 levels; metal stocks tank

Domestic equities opened nearly flat in positive tracking positive global cues. BSE benchmark Sensex gained 48.69 points, or 0.08 per cent at 62,897.33, while broader NSE Nifty50 jumped 10.85 points, or 0.06 per cent to 18,645.40.

By 9.28 am, Sensex climbed 104.43 points, or 0.17 per cent to 62,953.07, while Nifty50 gained 29.15 points, or, 0.16 per cent to 18,663.70.

Hero MotoCorp, Titan, Tata Motors, Britannia, Dr Reddys, Power Grid, NTPC, L&T, and SBI Life were the top gainers in the opening trade.

On the other hand, Divis Lab, Tata Steel, JSW Steel, Hindalco, HDFC Life, Cipla, Tech Mahindra, Apollo Hospital, and Infosys were the top loses at this hour.

Broader markets were largely trading in positive, as Nifty Microcap 250 gained 0.57 per cent, Nifty Smallcap 250 jumped 0.28 per cent, Nifty Midsmallcap 400 was up 0.23 per cent, and Nifty Midcap 150 jumped 0.21 per cent.

Sectorally, Nifty Consumer Durables gained 0.50 per cent, Nifty Realty jumped 0.42 per cent, Nifty Private Bank gained 0.27 per cent and Nifty Media climbed 0.24 per cent.

On the other hand, the Nifty Metal index slipped 0.51 per cent, PSU Bank index fell 0.33 per cent and the pharma sector was trading 0.17 per cent lower at the time of writing.
