Sensex falls over 150 pts, Nifty50 trades near 19,000; Reliance rallies post Q2, auto stocks lose
Domestic equities slipped at the open tracking weak global cues. BSE benchmark Sensex slipped 151.08 points, or 0.24 per cent to 63,631.72, while broader NSE Nifty50 slipped 36.90 points, or 0.19 per cent to 19,010.35.
Bajaj duo — Bajaj Finserv and Bajaj Finance — PowerGrid, Axis Bank, M&M, Tata Motors, Britannia, IndusInd Bank, Titan, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Grasim, HDFC Life, ITC and Dr Reddys were the top losers in the opening session.
On the flip side, stocks that gained were Cipla, Reliance Industries, SBI Life, BPCL, Tech Mahindra, UltraTech Cement, Maruti Suzuki, Sun Pharma, Hindalco, Wipro, ONGC, Adani Ports and HDFC Bank.
Barring India Vix, which spurt over 9 per cent, all broader market indices slipped into red in the opening session. Nifty Midcap Select, Nifty Microcap 250 slipped 0.69 per cent each, Nifty Midcap 50 fell 0.68 per cent, Nifty Smallcap 250 slipped 0.63 per cent, Nifty Midsmallcap 400 fell 0.61 per cent, Nifty Midcap 150 tanked 0.60 per cent, and Nifty Next 50 slipped 0.51 per cent.
Sectorally, only Oil & Gas, pharma and healthcare indices were trading in green. Nifty Oil & Gas lead the chart as Reliance Industries jumped around 2 per cent after its Q2 results.
On the flip side, media fell 1.10 per cent, consumer durables slipped 0.77 per cent, auto fell 0.59 per cent, Nifty Bank slipped 0.57 per cent, metal and PSU Bank slipped 0.47 per cent each.
