Sensex falls 100 pts, Nifty tests 23,850; broader markets trade higher

Sensex, Nifty opened lower on Thursday on the back of mixed global cues.

S&P BSE Sensex opened 0.13 per cent or 100 points lower at 78573.41 while NSE’s Nifty50 slipped 0.15 per cent or 37 points to 22,832.20 levels.

On the BSE, UltraTech Cement, JSW Steel were the top gainers while HCLTech, Tech Mahindra were among the major laggards.

Similarly, on the NSE, UltraTech Cement, Dr Reddy’s were the top gainers while Tech Mahindra, TCS were among the top losers.

Broader indices were trading higher. Nifty Midcap rose 0.41 per cent while SmallCap was trading 0.26 per cent higher

Sectorally, the Nifty IT was the top loser, down 0.50 per cent. On the other hand, Media and Metal rose 0.85 per cent and 0.59 per cent, respectively.
