Sensex down 400 pts; IT index dives 2%, MidCap firm
A cautious mood among global equities led to a muted start on D-Street on Wednesday. The S&P BSE Sensex was trading around 69,236 levels, down 314 points, while the Nifty50 was at 20,809, down 97 points.
NTPC, Power Grid, M&M, L&T, ITC, and IndusInd Bank were the top gainers on the Sensex. On the flipside, TCS, Infosys, Bajaj Finserv, Bajaj Finance, Axis Bank, Tech M, Wipro, and Asian Paints were the top laggards.
In the broader markets, the BSE MidCap and SmallCap indices rose 0.13 per cent and 0.11 per cent, respectively.
Most of the sector indices were ruling lower led by the Nifty IT index (down 1.73 per cent), and the Nifty Financial Services index (0.5 per cent). On the upside, the Nifty Media and Pharma indidces gained 0.2 per cent each.
