Sensex down 300 points, Nifty 50 below 18,100, dragged by financials
Indian equity benchmarks, BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty 50 opened lower on Wednesday. Losses in financial and IT shares led the headline indices lower.
Investors await more of financial results from India Inc for domestic cues, with Titan and Godrej Properties among others due to post their earnings later in the day. Tata Steel and Ambuja Cements reported their quarterly numbers on Tuesday.
BSE Sensex Update | Index slides 300 points
The Sensex is down 293.1 points or 0.5 percent at 61,061.6. 24 stocks in the 30-share index are trading with losses. Tech Mahindra, Infosys and Bajaj Finserv, down one to 1.3 percent, are the top index losers. On the other hand, NTPC, Asian Paints and Hindustan Unilever, up 0.5 to one percent, are the top gainers.
Nifty 50 Update | Index slides 80 points
Nifty 50 is trading at 18,068.4, down 79.25 points or 0.4 percent from its previous close. 38 stocks in the 50-share index are trading with losses. JSW Steel, Axis bank, SBI, down 0.7 percent to one percent, are the top index draggers. On the other hand, Asian Paints, NTPC, Cipla, up 0.2 percent to 0.5 percent, are the top index gainers.
