Sensex down 200pts; SpiceJet zooms 18%, Jio Fin slips 2%

The benchmark S&P BSE Sensex was hovering on either side of the flat line on Wednesday, quoting around 65,765 levels. The Nifty50, on the other hand, quoted at 19,570 levels.

ONGC, Cipla, Ultratech Cement, HDFC Life, LTIMindtree, HDFC Bank, Wipro, Power Grid, Bharti Airtel, Coal India, Tata Consumer Products, Britannia Industries, and HUL supported the headline indices, while Jio Financial Services, Hindalco, IndusInd Bank, Maruti Suzuki, Bajaj Finance, Adani Enterprises, Tata Steel, JSW Steel, and Asian Paints weighed.

The broader markets, however, maintained their edge over their frontline peers with the Nifty MidCap100 hitting a fresh record high of 40,368.65 in early deals. It rose 0.06 per cent.

The Nifty SmallCap 100, too, advanced 0.4 per cent in trades on Wednesday.

Among sectors, the Nifty Pharma index gained 0.7 per cent, followed by the Nifty FMCG index (up 0.2 per cent). The Nifty Metal index, meanwhile, fell 0.9 per cent, followed by the Nifty PSU Bank index (down 0.45 per cent).
