Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky urged the European Union to prove that it sided with Ukraine in its war with Russia and a day after signing a request to join the bloc. “The EU is going to be much stronger with us, that’s for sure,” he said.

“Without you, Ukraine is going to be lonesome,” Mr Zelensky told the European Parliament by video link. “Do prove that you are with us. Do prove that you will not let us go. Do prove that you are indeed Europeans and then life will win over death and light will win over darkness. Glory be to Ukraine,” he continued.

More than 70 Ukrainian servicemen were killed by a Russian rocket attack and dozens of civilians have died in “barbaric” shelling.

An Indian student was killed in shelling in Ukraine this morning, the Ministry of External Affairs has said. The student, from Karnataka’s Haveri, died when Russian soldiers blew up a government building on Tuesday.

Russian artillery attacked several residential areas in Ukraine’s second largest city Kharkiv.

Kyiv says 352 civilians have been killed, including 14 children, since the invasion began last Thursday. Russia has acknowledged for the first time that it has suffered losses.
