Oscars 2023: Full list of entries for Best International Feature Film category
The race for Oscars 2023 has begun as countries have started to send their entries for the prestigious Best International Feature Film category.
The Philippines Film Development Council has forwarded Erik Matti’s “On the Job-The Missing 8” as the representative film for the Oscars. This film earned the best actor award for John Arcilla at the Venice Film Festival.
Portugal zeroed in on “Alma Viva” by Cristele Alves Meira, a Portuguese-French filmmaker, which already premiered in Cannes.
Morocco has sent “The Blue Caftan” as the film had already won the Fipresci prize in Cannes. The film is by Maryam Touzani. The film stars Lubna Azabal and Saleh Bakri.
Argentina sent “Argentina 1985“, a film by Santiago Mitre, to the Oscars. It has already received the Fipresci prize at Cannes.
Denmark has “Holy Spider” as its choice for the Oscars. The film is about a family man taking the mantle of killing the prostitutes of Mashhad. The film is by the famous Ali Abbasi of “Border” fame.
Hong Kong has sent “Where the Wind Blows“.
Estonia has sent ‘Kalev‘ which is about the basketball team of Estonia.
Italy has sent Mario Martone’s ‘Nostalgia’ while France sent the Silver Lion winner of the Venice Film Festival.
Sweden has sent the “Boy from Heaven” which has already won the best screenplay award in Cannes. India has sent “The Last Film Show” and Iran has sent Houman Seyedi’s in “World War III“.
