Nishikant Dubey attacks Rahul Gandhi over Savarkar, takes ‘bete-damaad’ dig at Sonia Gandhi
Nishikant Dubey, Bharatiya Janata Party MP, on Tuesday initiated the party’s debate on a no-confidence motion in Lok Sabha and hit out at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his remarks on Savarkar. The BJP firebrand MP also took a dig at Sonia Gandhi on the occasion.
Raising the issue of the Supreme Court staying Rahul Gandhi’s conviction in the ‘Modi’ surname defamation case following which his membership was restored, Dubey said, “The Supreme Court has not given a judgment. It has given a stay order…He is saying that he will not apologise…Secondly, he says ‘I am not Savarkar. Rahul Gandhi, you can never be Veer Savarkar…”
Taking a swipe at the former Congress president, “This no-confidence motion has been brought. Why has this been brought? Sonia ji (Gandhi) is sitting here…I think she has to do two things to do- Bete (son) ko set karna hai aur damad (son-in-law) ko bhent karna hai…That is the base of this motion.”
Dubey’s comment is seen as an apparent dig at Rahul Gandhi and Robert Vadra.
The debate on the no-confidence motion against the BJP-led government is likely to take place on August 8 and 9 in the Lok Sabha and Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to give a reply on August 10.
Opposition members have been seeking discussion under Rule 267 in the Rajya Sabha since the beginning of the monsoon session of Parliament on July 20.
Dubey was speaking after Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi said the opposition bloc INDIA was forced to bring the no-confidence motion against the government to break Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “vow of silence” on Manipur.
Initiating the debate on the motion in the Lok Sabha, Gogoi alleged that a government which talks about “one India has created two Manipurs — one living in hills and the other in the valley”.
As the lower house took up the motion moved by Gogoi, there were heated exchanges between the opposition and treasury benches after Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi wondered why Rahul Gandhi’s name as lead speaker was withdrawn last minute.
