Mount Kailash, though not the highest peaks in the region, stays unclimbed as nobody has ever managed to summit the peak. All climbing expeditions are barred from taking place here.
It is believed that any attempts to summit the peak were thwarted by divine intervention, such as sudden weather change, lost routes and more.
The yin and yang of lakes
Mount Kailash has two lakes set at its foot, Mansarovar and Rakshas Tal. It is believed that the two lakes represent yin and yang; one is shaped like the Sun while the other resembles the Moon, one is a freshwater lake and the other is saltwater. Believers also opine that Mansarovar represents light, whereas Rakshas Tal represents darkness.

A number of scientists believe that Mount Kailash is too symmetrical and perfect to be nature’s creation. They also opine that since it’s impressively perpendicular, it can be a manmade pyramid and the biggest one too.

While the theory stays disputed, some scientists also believe that Mount Kailash is an energy vortex that accelerates ageing. It is also an urban legend that those who spend more than 12 hours here experience faster nail and hair growth!

One of the most popular urban legends hint that the area under Mount Kailash and underground sits atop underground cities, Shambhala and Agartha, and keeps them hidden. The two are believed to be home to ancient yet highly advanced civilisations from Gobi Desert and the Himalayas!
