The more sex partners a man has, the more he is prone to risk of developing prostate cancer, a study has found out.

According to the study, men with more than seven sexual partners in their lifetime were twice more likely to have prostate cancer than those with lesser partners. At the same time, men who are sexually active earlier, can also push them towards the risk of developing prostate cancer.

Sexual activities and metabolism were associated with a male sex hormone called antigen. This hormone is strongly linked to the beginning of prostate cancer. Researchers believe that this increased risk of developing prostate cancer can be because of hormonal changes happening in the male body. ‘The more partners you had, the more orgasms you had, the younger you were when you first had sex, all pointed to an increased prostate cancer risk,’ Visalini Nair-Shalliker, doctoral student at Cancer Council New South Wales in Australia, was quoted as saying to smh.com.au

Apart from these, the study also found out that obesity and family history of prostate cancer can also drive men towards the risk of developing the disease. However, researchers have not found any association between circumcision, vasectomy or erectile function and prostate cancer risk.

It is always important to identify risk factors and take steps accordingly. Timely consultation and timely medication can control or prevent the risk of developing the disease.
