Meet Vinit R Rai, a singer, songwriter and composer from Delhi NCR
Vinit Roop Rai, a Delhi NCR-based musician who hails from Rajasthan’s exotic regions, has been engaged in the Indian Independent Music Circuit for several years.
From 2009 until 2013, he worked as a vocalist for the Pune-based Vedic rock band ‘Bhramm.’ Later, in quest of his own projects and music, he relocated to the capital, where he met some outstanding musicians who helped him comprehend the local music scene.
Vinit published his first Demo EP in 2014, which included five original songs that he has written over the years. ‘Aaghorii’ was the title of the album. In September 2015, a single titled ‘Sikander’ was released. Vinit’s songs all have a backstory that is linked to his life experiences at some time.
Vinit’s most popular song, ‘Raavan,’ which he used to perform in Pune with his band, ‘bhramm,’ was his first ever penned Vedic Rock Song. Unlike its topic, he claims that this song possesses the innocence of a 20-year-old boy.Vinit stayed in Delhi for another two years with few or no gigs at times till Demonetization. Vinit then devised this plan to raise awareness about independent and struggling Artists throughout India. He contacted venues in Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore, Goa, and a few more places at random and collaborated with them on a self-funded tour. This was the start of his #indierising campaign.
This was the push he had been looking for for three years; he travelled throughout the country, played in many locations in every major city, and eventually built an audience for himself. The tour was fortunate for him to the point that he was offered finance for his song, ‘Raavan,’ by a random audience member during his Mumbai event. Vinit launched his single Raavan with a boom in 2019, followed by a four-city tour, this time with his entire band, in Gurgaon, Pune, Goa, and Dehradun. After Raavan, Vinit and his band, ‘VRR SUTRA,’ produced a few more singles with music videos, including Ankahee, Himalaya, and Uthal Puthal.
VRR SUTRA is now working on their next album, titled ‘Pruthvi,’ which will be released later this year. There are five tracks in this album, each representing a distinct element: air, water, fire, sky, and earth. Vinit wrote and composed all of the tracks, which are all inspired by nature in some way. Vinit created multiple songs while travelling across the Himalayas for #indierising and hopes to share a few of them with this new album. The record is now in post-production, and a release date will be announced as soon as possible.
