India at T20 World Cup: Skipper Rohit Sharma reveals Playing XI strategy ahead of Pakistan clash
Ahead of the marquee encounter with Pakistan on Sunday, India skipper Rohit Sharma has revealed that the team will go into the tournament with a flexible approach when it comes to the Playing XI.
Speaking at a press conference before the India vs Pakistan game at the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia, Rohit Sharma said that India would change the playing XI in every game if need be.
“There are times like this time when we don’t have much information about how teams have fared at this time of the year. At times, you depend on your instincts and choose the player on current form and how he is doing,” Rohit Sharma said at the presser.
“But we also study a lot of data. I am open about my playing XI. I don’t mind having one or two changes per game in the playing XI,” he added. The skipper also admitted that Indian players were “disappointed” having not won big games in ICC tournaments for 9 nine years.
India hasn’t had a settled squad in T20s for over a year. 29 cricketers have featured in T20Is for India in the last one year. This could be attributed to player injuries as well as workload management. However, it has left India still seeking the right balance in the side.
The players certain to be in the playing XI include skipper Rohit Sharma, opener KL Rahul, top order batters Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav and all-rounder Hardik Pandya. For the wicket keeping spot, comeback kid Dinesh Karthik seems to have the edge on Rishabh Pant currently.
