IMD issues orange alert for Mumbai, high tide hits Marine Drive amid heavy rain
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued orange alert for Mumbai and Thane, with intense to very intense rain predicted at isolated places in the region till 10am.
The Regional Meteorological Centre’s forecast indicates moderate to heavy rain in city and suburbs and very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places.
As per IMD, intense to very intense rain with gusty winds reaching 40-50 kmph very likely at isolated places in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Thane, Palghar till 10 am today, reported ANI.
In a video shared by news agency ANI, high tides can be seen hitting the Marine Drive in Mumbai amid heavy rainfall with gusty winds.
The weather forecasting agency has issued a red alert for ghat regions around Pune on Tuesday and predicted moderate rainfall for Pune city. The IMD said that the catchment areas of the dams are likely to get good rainfall in the next few days.
“In Pune city limits as well, the forecast is of overcast, a few intense spells and moderate to isolated heavy rainfall on August 9. We have extended the same forecast for August 10 for Pune city limits but the ghat regions may experience very heavy isolated rainfall on August 10,” said Anupam Kashyapi, head of weather forecasting department at the IMD Pune.
