A Delhi school was evacuated Wednesday morning after an e-mail warned of a bomb on the premises.

According to the Deputy Commissioner of Police (South), the e-mail threat “appears to be a hoax”. DCP Chandan Chaudhary said that a minute and thorough checking of the school premises was undertaken by BDS, BDT, and SWAT teams after evacuating the premises.

“At 10:50 am the school got a bomb threat via e-mail. We evacuated all the students. We deployed BDT and BDS teams. We informed the Special Cell and Special Branch. We have done a visual search with the SWAT team,” she added.

A senior police officer said an individual – identified only as Brijesh at this time – had alerted authorities about the e-mail, which was received at 10.49 am.

Visuals shared by news agency ANI showed parents and children gathered outside the school. One video showed over half a dozen armed security personnel – in blue uniforms and with bulletproof vests – moving swiftly on to the school’s campus via a small red gate.

After a brief conversation with school officials outside they march into the building.

Another video showed the outside of the school – identified by ANI as The Indian School in Delhi’s Sadiq Nagar – and dozens of parents, reporters, and other people waiting outside.

Bihar bomb threat

Meanwhile, a bomb threat was also received at the Patna International Airport in Bihar.

This threat was made via a phone call and other visuals (also shared by ANI) also showed armed security personnel stationed outside the facility. ANI quoted the airport director as saying the internal threats assessment committee found the call to be ‘non-specific’.

Nevertheless, police bomb squads have launched a search operation, ANI visuals showed.
