Britney Spears says team and press projected her as ‘eternal virgin’ even though she had sex at 14
American pop star Britney Spears’ memoir The Woman in Me has hit the shelves and fans are discovering a shocking revelation every day.
The latest thing to make news is how she has addressed the ‘eternal virgin’ image of her that was projected by the media and even her own team.
‘Been having sex since I was 14’
As per People, Britney says that she was asked about her sex life in interviews but was told to conceal it all. She was projected as a virgin in her 20s even though she had been having sex since she was 14.
“Given that I had so many teenage fans, my managers and press people had long tried to portray me as an eternal virgin — never mind that Justin [Timberlake] and I had been living together, and I’d been having sex since I was fourteen,” Britney wrote in her book.
She added, “Why did my managers work so hard to claim I was some kind of young-girl virgin even into my twenties? Whose business was it if I’d had sex or not?”
Obsession with her sex life
Britney has long had to suffer questions about her personal life in the media. Her then-boyfriend Justin Timberlake, meanwhile, has revealed during a couple of interviews that they have indeed had sex. Addressing the same, she later said in 2002 to W Magazine, “I’ve only slept with one person my whole life. It was two years into my relationship with Justin, and I thought he was the one. … But I was wrong! I didn’t think he was gonna go on Barbara Walters and sell me out.”
The Woman in Britney
The Woman In Me is Britney in her own, unvarnished words. From sharing daiquiris with her mother as a young teenager — two years after she became a regular on The Mickey Mouse Club — to the 13 years she spent as an adult in a conservatorship, the memoir details how she struggled to escape the influence of her controlling father, her wrought relationship with Justin, and more.
More tidbits that have leaked from the book include news of an abortion she says Justin Timberlake urged her to have after she became pregnant while the couple was together. When the pair split, and his hit Cry Me A River appeared to be about the way he felt she had betrayed him, Britney was painted as the “harlot who’d broken the heart of America’s golden boy,” she writes.
In reality, he was “happily running around Hollywood” while she was “comatose in Louisiana.”
The book released on Tuesday in around 20 countries and 10 languages.
