Before Meghalaya poll, Congress leader, another MLA quit; set to join ruling NPP
As Meghalaya warms up for assembly elections, due early next year, Congress leader Ampareen Lyngdoh, along with one more MLA, has quit the grand old party.
Lyngoh and the colleague is set to join the ruling NPP (National People’s Party), people familiar with the matter said. “I have tendered my formal resignation from @INCIndia,” the leader wrote on Twitter on Monday morning, along with a copy of the letter, tagging Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. The NPP is the coalition partner of the BJP.
Meghalaya is set to vote early next year. Tripura is another northeastern state where assembly elections are likely to be held by March.
