Australia revised its travel advisory: Assam CM Sarma
Australia has withdrawn its travel advisory for citizens against visiting Assam, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Thursday.
However, the Australian government has advised against travel to four districts where the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) is still in effect.
Sarma clarified that Australia has reviewed its travel restrictions and updated its guidelines, allowing tourists to visit all districts of Assam except Tinsukia, Charaideo, Dibrugarh, and Sibsagar. The Chief Minister added that the Australian High Commission assured that if AFSPA is lifted from these areas, the restrictions would be fully removed.
Earlier, both Australia and Germany had issued travel advisories for their citizens due to concerns over law and order in the state. Sarma expressed hope that Germany would also soon revise its travel advisory in line with Australia’s decision.
