Arvind Trivedi, Ravan from Ramanand Sagar’s ‘Ramayan’, passes away at 82

Actor Arvind Trivedi is no more. Arvind, best known for his role as Ravana in Ramanand Sagar’s mythological series ‘Ramayan’, died in Mumbai at the age of 86 on Tuesday.

The unfortunate news was confirmed by Arvind’s nephew. In an interview with ETimes Arvind’s nephew, Kaustubh Trivedi, said, “He was not keeping well for quite some time, but today he suffered a heart attack and that led to multiorgan failure.”

As per media reports, the last rites will take place at Dahanukarwadi crematorium, Wednesday morning.

Besides being immortalised as Ravan, Arvind Trivedi also left a mark with his acting prowess in the TV cult ‘Vikram Aur Betal’. A former MP, the Gujarati film star was elected for Loksabha in 1991 from the Sabarkantha seat on a BJP ticket. He served as a Parliamentarian till 1996. He also served as an acting chairman for the Central Board for Film Certification (CBFC) for a brief time between 2002 and 2003.

With a career spanning over three decades, Arvind essayed several impressionable roles in his lifetime. The film ‘Desh Re Joya Dada Pardesh Joya’ remains one of the greatest Gujarati films of all time. In fact, it is also one of the highest-grossing Gujarati films.

“He was a very good human being and had a great sense of humour. He acted in Gujarati film ‘Maatema Bija Vagdana Vaa’, which was probably one of his last films,” filmmaker A Kumar was quoted telling ETimes while confirming the news of Arvind’s death.
