The Israeli army said Thursday that it had carried out a deadly strike on a UN school in central Gaza that it said housed a “Hamas compound,” with the Hamas media office saying at least 27 people were killed.

Israeli “fighter jets… conducted a precise strike on a Hamas compound embedded inside an UNRWA school in the area of Nuseirat,” the army said in a statement, adding that several terrorists were “eliminated.”

The Hamas-run Gaza government media office said dozens of people were also injured in the school that currently houses displaced persons in Nuseirat in the central Gaza Strip.

There was no immediate confirmation by the health ministry.
