Air taxi service set to be launched in Dubai; swift, scenic travel awaits users

Dubai residents can look forward to swift and safe travel between major cities in the Emirate with the introduction of the RTA air taxi service, scheduled to launch by the end of next year.

Operated by a US-based aviation company, the service promises to provide an unparalleled aerial experience, offering passengers scintillating views of Dubai’s skyline.

The air taxis, designed to alleviate the challenges of heavy city traffic, will cost a minimum of 350 dirhams per person. With each taxi capable of accommodating up to four passengers and a pilot, and ample space for baggage, convenience is assured.

Authorities highlight that the air taxi service will significantly reduce travel times within Dubai, slashing journey durations by up to 70%. For instance, a trip from Dubai International Airport to Palm Jumeirah, which typically takes 45 minutes to an hour by road, can be completed in just 10 to 12 minutes by air taxi.

Operating at altitudes ranging from 100 to 1000 meters depending on the distance of the journey, the air taxis prioritize safety and comfort. Pilots, equipped with commercial flying licenses, undergo a rigorous 6 to 8-week training program to ensure proficiency in navigating the aircraft.

Passengers can easily book air taxi rides via a mobile application developed by Joby Aviation, with the option to reserve rides through Uber integration. Additionally, the service guarantees departure even with just one passenger onboard.

A unique feature of the air taxis is their rapid charging capability, allowing them to recharge from zero to 100% in under ten minutes. Upon landing at vertiports, ground staff swiftly connect the taxis to charging points, ensuring minimal downtime between flights.

With the fusion of helicopter take-off maneuvers and the comfort of airplane travel, the air taxis represent a groundbreaking advancement in urban mobility for Dubai’s residents and visitors alike.
