Sensex falls 300 pts, Nifty tests 22,200 in broad-based selling
Sensex, Nifty opened lower as investors turn cautious post the third phase of Lok Sabha polls.
S&P BSE Sensex opened 0.47 per cent or 347 points lower at 73,164.16 while NSE Nifty50 dropped 0.47 per cent or 104 points to 22,198.10 levels.
On the BSE, Maruti Suzuki, Reliance Industries were the top gainers while L&T and Asian Paints were among the major laggards.
Similarly, on the NSE, Maruti Suzuki, Coal India were the top gainers while Dr Reddy, Grasim were among the top losers.
In the broader markets, Nifty MidCap and SmallCap dropped 0.33 per cent and 0.21 per cent, respectively.
Sectorally, the Nifty Realty fell the most (down 1.38 per cent), followed by Consumer Durables (down 1.19 per cent) and Pharma (down 0.69 per cent). However, PSU Bank was up 0.84 per cent.
