Sensex, Nifty volatile; IndiGo soars 4%, UPL dips 7%

Equity benchmark indices had a muted start on Monday as most markets held losses elsewhere in Asia this morning. The BSE Sensex was 16 points below the flatline at 72,069 and the NSE Nifty50 too was nearly unchanged at 21,860.

Tata Motors surged 7 per cent and crossed Rs 900-mark after touching it briefly on Feb 1. Sun Pharma, Tata Steel and M&M were the next top winners.

On the flip side, ICICI Bank, SBI, Kotak Bank, Reliance, HDFC Bank and IndusInd led losses on the benchmark index.

The broader markets were relatively firm. The BSE MidCap and SmallCap indices held gains of up to 0.37 per cent.
