The tourism landscape in Old Mysore region is all set to get a major revamp, which will boost the economy of the region for sure.

As per the latest news reports, Karnataka is coming up with an ambitious plan of introducing a novel tiger safari zone in the southernmost district of Chamarajanagar.

This initiative has been designed on similar lines to mirror the success of other renowned reserves like Nagarhole and Bandipur. Reports add that the upcoming safari will stretch over an expansive 18 km, which will commence from Lokkanahalli in the PG Palya Range within the Male Mahadeshwara Hills (MM Hills) wildlife division.

The safari will take visitors through dense and imposing jungles, which will not only offer them an opportunity to witness diverse wildlife, but will also let them explore the intriguing remnants of Stone Age structures.

Reports also state that this safari is scheduled to kick off in the first week of December, whereas the safari will mark its debut with a single vehicle, operating under a two-month exploration phase. Santhosh Kumar G, deputy conservator of forest for MM Hills Wildlife Division, emphasized the strategic location of the route along the elephant corridor, making it a prime spot for encounters with wild elephants.

Further, visitors can also anticipate sightings of tigers, spotted and sambar deer, leopards, Indian guar, Indian hare, and a variety of bird species. The route is also home to significant Stone Age structures, including burial grounds and an anti-poaching camp.

This initiative is poised to contribute to the establishment of a dedicated Kollegal tourist circuit, designed for convenient exploration in a single day. The safari point is strategically positioned near popular tourist destinations such as the Dhondenling Tibetan camp, Bharachukki Falls, and Gundal Dam.

Local tourism stakeholders have expressed optimism about the transformative impact of this new safari, envisioning increased tourist activities in and around Kollegal.

With its unique blend of rich biodiversity, historical remnants, and proximity to existing attractions, the Chamarajanagar tiger safari holds promise as a valuable addition to the region’s ever-expanding tourism offerings, providing a fresh allure for both wildlife enthusiasts and history buffs alike.
