Sensex gains 100 points, Nifty rises trades at 19,482; ONGC, Coal India gain, HCLTech loses
Domestic markets opened higher on Wednesday ahead of retail inflation data, and Q1 results of IT giants HCLTech and TCS. BSE benchmark Sensex jumped 141.44 points, or 0.21 per cent to open at 65,759.28, while broader NSE Nifty50 rose 42.40 points, or 0.22 per cent to start at 19,481.80.
By 9.40 am, Sensex was trading 101.46 points, or 0.15 per cent higher at 65,719.30, while, Nifty climbed 30. points, or 0.15 per cent to 19,469.40.
Except for Nifty Auto, all sectors opened in green, as Nifty Oil & Gas jumped 0.90 per cent, consumer durables jumped 0.65 per cent, Nifty Metal climbed 0.62 per cent, Nifty Media gained 0.36 per cent, and the PSU Bank index gained 0.34 per cent.
Broader markets also extended the rally at open, as all indices were trading in green. Nifty Smallcap 100 jumped 0.64 per cent, Nifty Smallcap 50 gained 0.58 per cent, Nifty Microcap 250 climbed 0.72 per cent, while India Vix spurt 1.13 per cent.
ONGC, Coal India, Reliance, Titan, Kotak Bank, UPL, Bajaj Finance, SBI Life, ICICI Bank, and HDFC Bank were the top gainers in the morning trade. On the other hand, IndusInd Bank, UltraCement, HCLTech, Hero MotoCorp, M&M, Infosys, Asian Paints were the top losers at this hour.
