Present-day feminism has started touching even the most basic things that had a subtle but crucial patriarchy mindset—for example, the choice of having hair-less skin.
Of course, there are no specific rules or guidelines that say we should mandatorily shave off the body or facial hair. But, if you love hairless skin and want to know the secret mantra to achieve it without spending too much of your time and money in a salon, we got your back.
We got in touch with Asawari Pawar, CMO at LetsShave and asked her to curate a list of 6 chief grooming hacks for our strong and beautiful ladies to kick-start their day without worrying about peach fuzzes and unwanted facial hair:
Lukewarm water and gentle cleanser Foremost, clean your face with lukewarm water and a gentle cleanser. Make sure that the cleanser has natural ingredients and no chemicals such as paraben, sulfate and alcohol. Both the lukewarm water and cleanser will soften the hair to help it get removed easily. It is vital to ensure that the water is lukewarm, not hot. Otherwise, it will do more harm than good.
Always use shaving gel or foam to reduce friction
It is a common myth that using shaving gel or foam is not necessary. Soap or water can do just fine. The reality is that shaving gel and foams have moisturizing qualities that are otherwise not found in a regular soap bar. It makes sure that the razor glides smoothly on your skin without any friction. It also keeps the skin dehydrated after shaving. So, always apply a thin layer of shaving gel or foam on damp skin before starting the actual shaving.
Put the face razors at an angle of 45 degrees
Besides understanding when to apply pressure or other factors, it is essential to learn how to hold a face razor at an angle of 45 degrees. This angle will offer you the best results to slice off all facial peach fuzzes without leaving any trail or ingrown hair.
Pull the skin taut to prevent nicks and cuts
Keeping the skin tight and smooth is extremely important. You wouldn’t want to lose grip or apply pressure at the wrong place accidentally. Also, gliding on tight skin will help the razor cut hair smoothly without nicking or cutting. So, turn your face, use your fingertips and keep your skin taut while shaving facial hair.
Use short, light and gentle strokes and shave in the direction of hair growth
The right razor with sharp blades won’t require you to apply extra pressure. So, use a fresh razor, especially while removing facial hair, and make gentle light and short strokes. Don’t drag it, like you do while shaving leg hair. Moreover, always shave in the direction of hair growth to avoid ingrown hair and clean shaving results.
Post-shave cold splash and moisturizer
After completing your facial shaving session, splash your face with some cold water to wash off any extra hair lurking around. Then, pat it dry and apply hydrating moisture to give that finishing touch. Remember, shaving doesn’t make your skin only hairless, but it also exfoliates the skin and leaves, smoother, supple, and glowing skin. It also increases the skin’s absorption capacity so that your moisturizing products can have better results.
A word of advise
At present, while we are surrounded by a looming life-threatening virus causing financial turmoils, hectic schedules and raging competitiveness, sometimes it’s hard to keep pace. Always juggling between the roles of a mother, daughter, wife, sister, friend, colleague, employer and employee, many times, we women forget the need for some self-love, self-appreciation, and self-time.
So, ladies, don’t forget that you can keep your family and friends happy when you are happy.
Therefore, keep taking breaks in between and give extra care to yourself. And, definitely don’t let the judgments of society prevent you from taking the steps towards personal care and self-grooming.
