Are you aware that there are parts of India that still don’t allow visitors to visit? Of course, owing to various reasons, such as security concerns, disputed areas, and much more. Although they are beautiful and unique in their own way, one cannot visit these places.
Here is a list of forbidden places in India where travellers are not allowed.
Upper part of Pangong Tso, Ladakh
Although Pangong Tso is one of the most famous tourist destinations in India, a major part of the area that surrounds the lake remains inaccessible for tourists. The reason behind it is that around 50 per cent of the lake falls in the disputed territory. The Line of Actual Control (LAC) in fact separates the Indian controlled territory from Chinese controlled territory, which passes through the lake. Thus, one can visit only that part of the lake that lies on the Indian side.
Barren Island, Andamans
India’s only confirmed volcano is located on Barren Island, which lies on the seismically active tectonic plates in the Andaman Sea. However, one can see this beautiful island from afar while on a ship, but you will be prohibited to disembark on the island. Since the island is not inhabited by people, this island earned its name.
Some Lakshadweep islands
Lakshadweep is a group of 36 islands, of which only a few are accessible by tourists due to tourism purposes. Keeping in view the interest of the local population, most of the islands remain beyond the reach of visitors. Also, since the island is an important naval base, security remains the main concern here. However, visitors can get permits to visit certain islands, such as Agatti, Bangaram, Kadmat, Agatti, Kavaratti, and Minicoy Islands.
BARC, Mumbai
BARC or the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, located in a suburb in Mumbai, is one of the restricted places for tourists in India. Since it’s India’s premier nuclear research centre, tourists and visitors cannot enter the facility due to security reasons. However, only researchers and students are allowed to visit; that too, after taking a series of permissions from government institutions.
