Sensex jumps 124 points in early trade, Nifty at 17,760; HDFC twins, Reliance gain
Domestic markets opened almost flat today amid mixed global cues, inflation data, and ahead of quarterly results of India Inc’s March quarter. BSE benchmark Sensex opened flat, down 2.01 points to 60,155.71, while NSE Nifty50 opened 13.85 points, or 0.08 per cent to 17,736.15.
By 9.40 am, 30-share Sensex jumped 124.14 points, or 0.21 per cent to 60,281.86, while broader Nifty gained 38 points, or 0.21 per cent, to 17,760.30.
Broader markets outperformed in opening deals today as Nifty Microcap 250 gained 0.26 per cent, followed by Nifty Next50 rose 0.25 per cent. Nifty Midcap Select jumped 0.21 per cent at open, while, Nifty Smallcap 100 gained 0.19 per cent. India Vix, on the other hand, rose 0.89 per cent.
Pharma stocks were the top gainers at open as the sector gained 0.48 per cent, followed by metal stocks at 0.46 per cent. Meanwhile, IT, realty and FMCG were trading in negative at the open.
Reliance Industries, HDFC Bank, HDFC, Tata Motors, Divis Lab, Adani Enterprises, Grasim, Cipla, UltraCement, Tata Motors and Titan were among the top gainers at the open.
Meanwhile, Nestle India, IndusInd Bank, ONGC, Hindustan Unilever, Power Grid, NTPC, Kotak Mahindra Bank were among the top losers in the opening deals.
