Sensex jumps 660 pts, Nifty rises to 17,264; Reliance, ICICI Bank, Tech Mahindra, Adani Ent jump

Domestic markets climbed Friday defying global trends as key indices — Sensex and Nifty — jumped more than 1 per cent at the open today.

BSE benchmark Sensex jumped 662.32 points, or 1.14 per cent to 58,622.41 by 9.30 am, while, NSE Nifty50 climbed 183.65 points, or 1.08 per cent at 17,264.35.

Broader markets too extended the rally as Nifty Microcap 250 jumped 1.40 per cent, and Nifty Smallcap 50 rose 1.33 per cent. Nifty Next 50 and Nifty Smallcap 50 each climbed 1.12 per cent, while, Nifty 100 and Nifty 200 gained 1.05 and 1.01 per cent, respectively. On the other hand, India Vix tanked 4.58 per cent.

All sectoral indices at the NSE were trading in green at the open today, as oil and gas stocks were the biggest gainers, up 1.53 per cent, followed by IT stocks at 1.28 per cent, and private banks stocks at 1.25 per cent. Metal stocks gained 1.23 per cent, while Nifty Bank jumped 1.14 per cent followed by media stocks at 1.13 per cent.

Reliance Industries, HCLTech, Tech Mahindra, ICICI Bank, Adani Enterprises, Axis Bank and Power Grid were among the top gainers at the open today.

Meanwhile, ITC, Sun Pharma, Asian Paints, Britannia and Bharti Airtel were among the top losing stocks today at the open.
