When Rita Ora stepped out recently for a TV show event, the songstress grabbed attention for her over-the-top eye do.
Rita sported a daring thick black cat eye, keeping the rest of her make-up subtle and in nude tones. Emily Ratajkowski also wore a rather dramatic winged look when she walked for Versace’s men’s show this month.
At the recent Country Music Awards, Olivia Culpo flaunted a sexy take on the classic extending it to the lower lash line. Whether on the runway or off it, the extreme cat eye look seems to be in.
Shraddha Bachani, celebrity make-up expert, AVON India seconds this. She says in 2019 the cat eye is very striking. “It is more smokey, with more colours and glitter elements. People love creating drama on the eyes. You can play with the length and thickness of the winged look.” she states. Just remember to begin by creating a good base. Start with using a primer. For eyeshadow, you can use a shimmery or matte one as per the look you want to create. When applying eyeliner the key is to find the perfect angle. You can smudge some eyeshadow or a kohl pencil at the bottom for added effect.
The cat eye has many takers including Lady Gaga, who aced the look for her promotional events for her latest flick. She rocked a metallic blue cat eye, extending from the top of her lids upwards along the crease of her eye. Mj Rodriguez too went with blue for the Golden Globes. Coloured eyeliners are a cool way to mix things up opines Anisha Chawla, make-up artist and hair stylist. “Even B-Town stars like Sonakshi Sinha and Kiara Advani have sported some beautiful coloured cat eyes recently. Brides too are ready to give the beautiful winged liner a go. The deconstructed cat eye which starts at the end corner of the eye is a super cool look too. This year a lot of young girls, fashion bloggers and make-up artists will be opting for this look,” she adds.
Models are opting for the experimental cat eye and Winnie Harlow recently sported one for a Hollywood charity gala. Saba Khan, Head make-up artist, MUD Academy India says the cat eye is one of those iconic liner looks that will never go out of style. “If going for a cat eye, keep the rest of the make-up muted. Opt for a nude, glowy skin look, natural eyebrows, flushed cheeks and a nude lip. Since the eyes are the focus of the whole look, you can add two coats of the eyeliner to add more intensity and drama to the eyes,” she mentions.
