People have had polarizing opinions about coffee since it was discovered. In fact, in the Middle Ages, this beverage was even branded as a ‘bitter invention of Satan.’

Fast-forward to modern times, and coffee still has notoriety attributed to it. It has been mistakenly linked to cancer, liver disease, and other medical issues. This notion was entirely dismissed only in 2016 when the International Agency for Research on Cancer removed coffee from their list of possible carcinogens.

Thankfully, recent studies have finally established that drinking coffee has more than a handful of benefits, and it can even save your life.

The American Cancer Society debunked the popular misconception that drinking coffee may cause cancer of the breast, pancreas, or prostate. The truth is quite the opposite, as there is evidence that moderate ingestion of this beverage can reduce a person's risk of liver cancer and heart disease.

Furthermore, people who need to lose weight to avoid health risks stand to benefit from coffee as well, because caffeine increases the body's production of epinephrine. According to Reader's Digest, epinephrine is responsible for burning stored fat. And this goes hand in hand with its ability to suppress appetite.

Because of the aforementioned effects, coffee goes well with other natural ingredients that can accelerate weight loss. These are commonly found in sugar-free variants and slimming coffee.

Low Carb Pinay listed Nescafe and Maxwell House as international brands that use an alternative sweetener. Stevia, which is derived from a plant with the same name, is the most widely used as it has less calories than sugar. Slimming coffee, meanwhile, often contains herbal extracts that help regulate appetite. Pretty Me’s Lean n Green Coffee has psyllium fiber husk that produces this effect, in addition to improved digestion. To sum it up, coffee works in two ways as a weight management tool – by making your body produce more energy through breaking down fat, and reducing your calorie intake.

All in all, coffee is a gift that keeps on giving. May it be a long day at work or a humdrum afternoon, there’s nothing that a good cup o' joe can’t save you from.
