The last two weeks of the year are upon us and there’s no better time to up your beauty game.
Whether attending an X’mas dinner or a cocktail party or even ringing in the New Year’s, this is the season to go all out with metallic make-up, touches of glitter and fancy updos. You can experiment with statement lips or even let your eyes to do the talking, experts suggest some chic looks.

All about the eyes

Aakriti Kochar, Beauty and Make-up expert, Oriflame India, feels the eyes are the focal point this season. “Metallic eye make-up with soft glitter is making a comeback, it’s out there and flashy this year. Also, simple eye liners, or black and smudgy. Inspired from the 90’s, black is back whether subtle or full smokey yet defining the eyes. Heavy underliner with smudgy black on the lower rim of the eyes looks great too.

Highlighter is big as is illuminated skin. Forget the lip gloss, skin is more about glow and shimmer this time. Ditch the cream-based highlighters. A big come back is mineralised foundations for a satiny glow finish to the skin at its natural best, bronzed shimmer look in golds and deep brown and pearl highlighters on the cheeks for lifted cheekbones.

Most importantly make the skin look fresh and glowy. Dark berry tones work for the lips. Blackberry tones being the hot favourite and even wine stained lips. Go for striking lips with a mirror like finish. Do not add coloured gloss on top of these lip colours, instead use a clear gloss for a better mirror-like finish,” she says.

Braids and buns

Adhuna Bhabani, Founder and Creative Director, BBLUNT says this season, braid it, bun it or let it down. “Fishtail braids are all the rage, day or night. Make one out of more than three sections of your hair and you’re ready to celebrate. Messy French braids or buns are a quick and easy style to try when the hair gets frizzy. Simply twist with a deep side parting. This look which is perfect for a house party, with bobby bins or invisible pins. Side braid is a cool way to flaunt your locks. It starts with a braid from the top leaving your hair down on the side. You can leave the ends as you like it — straight or curly. To save hair from heat damage due to the use of excessive tools during the festive season, be sure to guard your hair with a heat protectant styling product from mid-lengths to ends of your hair before you begin styling.”

Classy and elegant

Natasha Nischol, co-owner and co-founder of Fat Mu, make-up academy says like weddings and birthdays, Christmas parties are up there on the occasions list worth pulling out the stops for. A gorgeous hairstyle needn’t mean hours of effort. “Go for sexy siren waves — these are a classic party look, keep your tresses with a low side parting and sweep your hair (tonged in large sections, all in the same direction) over one shoulder.

Try a sleek down-do. Smooth over your hair with stylers and pin back the front sections for some added interest. As it’s Christmas, go glitzy on the clips. Since the weather around you gets colder and dryer, nothing beats well moisturised skin and a supple foundation. Once the basic foundation is in place, you can pick between statement eyes or statement lips.

I think keeping it classy and impactful is the way to go, since everything around you is so glitzy and glamorous. If you’re looking for a chic way to step up your make-up game, a metallic shadow is just the thing. Add a pop of champagne in the center of the lid and inner corners, then a touch of brown shadow along the lower lash line to take it up a notch.

Glitter lips made it onto the scene when Pat McGrath bestowed them on her famous friends via her Lust004 kit. While the set might be sold out, you can still get the look by pressing loose glitter onto a red lipstick. Keep the rest of your make-up minimal, so your lips take centre stage,” adds Natasha.
